Geographic Information Systems (GIS)

Professional Summary:
I have a passion in Geographic Information System (GIS) and geospatial analysis. My objective is to apply the skills I've already learned professionally and in university, and apply them for the benefit of the public - while continuing to advance my knowledge & skills and grow professionally in the GIS field. In order to do this, I will need to be in a position where I can interact, collaborate and learn from other GIS professionals.

WORK EXPERIENCE

Franklin County (Public Works Department) - Pasco, WA

Engineering Tech I / II (GIS)

August 2022 - September 2024

  • Spearheaded the GIS side of culvert inspection operations during the winter of 2023-24; created an interactive form for culvert inspection information using ArcGIS Field Maps. A major aspect to this task was teaching road crew personnel how to fill out the form in ArcGIS Field Maps
  • Maintained the internal and external GIS data within the department
  • Maintained classic PDF maps that are posted to the county website
  • Maintained the South Columbia Basin Irrigation District (SCBID) online web map (Click here to view)
  • Occasionally performed field work including traffic counters and field data collection of illumination (LED signs, street lights, J-Boxes, etc.) using ArcGIS Field Maps

City of Wenatchee - Wenatchee, WA

GIS Intern

June 2022 - July 2022

  • Performed digital and web-based cartography and data management using GIS technology
  • Supported GIS services for City and public use

KCWU-FM - Ellensburg, WA

Volunteer, DJ & Board Operator

June 2022 - July 2022

  • Board Operator during CWU home basketball games during the 2019-20 season
    • I sat in the studio and operated the board while coordinating with the announcers at the stadium. My key responsibility was switching back and forth between pre-produced underwritings (sponsor announcements) during breaks and the game when play was in progress, while ensuring the audio levels were good over the radio and on CWU Athletics’ video stream. I also had to maintain a log of everything I played over the air and when.
  • Host of “Space Rocks” on KCWU’s second rock-formatted stream
    • Space Rocks was a show focusing on the cool parts of science & technology
  • Volunteer at events
    • I helped the station set up for various events and represented the station at these events
    • I completed an advanced events workshop prior to participating at events, receiving a certificate in the process.

EDUCATION

Central Washington University - Ellensburg, WA

B.S. Individual Studies (Geologic Disasters & GIS)

September 2017 - June 2021

This custom interdisciplinary degree consists of both geology and geography experience – particularly Geographic Information Systems (GIS). My main focuses of the degree are geologic/natural disasters (i.e., earthquakes, volcanoes, and tsunamis), Pacific Northwest geologic history, climate science, the natural world, GIS, and basic computer programming.
During my time at CWU, I was engaged in tsunami modelling, which involved the use of the Python-based GeoClaw program to simulate undersea earthquakes and model the subsequent tsunami. After a short test run using the bathymetry of Moses Lake (the lake), I shifted my focus to the Atlantic Ocean as tsunamis are much more rare in that basin compared to the Pacific Ocean, which is surrounded by mega-faults and active volcanoes.

Big Bend Community College - Moses Lake, WA

Associates in Arts and Sciences

September 2015 - August 2017

At Big Bend, I took basic general education classes including English, philosophy/religious studies, psychology, sociology, chemistry, math, history, environmental science and computer science. From the computer science classes at BBCC, I learned C#/Visual Studio, HTML/CSS and basic SQL, which would eventually become handy as I pursue this GIS certificate. This AA also fulfills my general education requirements for CWU.

Moses Lake High School - Moses Lake, WA

September 2012 - June 2015 (graduated a year early)
